Accounts receivable (AR)
Definition
Accounts receivable is money owed to a business for work already delivered but not yet paid for.
AR is the most common source of a cash-flow gap: the revenue is earned and recorded, but the cash has not arrived. Bridging against approved receivables with a defined due date is among the most defensible uses of short-term capital.
