Prepayment / early payoff
Definition
Prepayment is settling a facility ahead of schedule, which reduces total cost on interest-bearing products but not automatically on fixed-cost ones.
On an interest-accruing loan, paying early stops the clock and saves money. On a factor-rate obligation the total is fixed at signing, so early settlement only helps where the agreement defines specific early-payoff terms.
Ask for those terms in writing before signing rather than relying on a verbal assurance.
