APR (annual percentage rate)
Definition
APR expresses the cost of capital as an annualized percentage, allowing facilities of different lengths to be compared on a common basis.
Because APR annualizes, an identical dollar cost produces a much higher APR when repaid quickly. On monthly payments, a flat $10,000 cost on $100,000 is roughly 34% APR over six months and roughly 18% over twelve — same money, same cost, different clock.
