Amortization
Definition
Amortization is the repayment of a balance through scheduled installments that cover both interest and principal over a defined term.
In an amortizing loan, early payments weight toward interest and later ones toward principal. Fixed-cost products such as factor-rate facilities do not amortize in this sense — the total is set at signing rather than accruing against a declining balance.
